Can I use Prilosec instead of Protonix and get the same result? I'm taking 40 mg of Protonix and it's very expensive. I wonder what dose of Prilosec would be interchangable

Kirill K replied: "Yes, Prilosec and Protonix are in the same class of medication and thus should have the same effect. 40 mg dose will be OK as I think. But your Dr of course know better. Didn't you think to use Generic form of Protonix which is much cheaper? Good luck!"

What food not to eat when you have stomach problem? I went to the doctor and he said I might have an early ulcer. I've been using protonix for 2 weeks, and that really helped. Now I'm using prilosec to keep reducing the acid in my stomach. My doctor strongly adviced me not to eat fried food, spicy, caffeine, hard liquors, sodas, chocolate, very few alcohol (wine, beer). Is ther anything else you might think of, like: what kind of fruit/vegetable to avoid? Soy milk with cereals? Dressing for salads? Meat? Fish? Fruit juices?I forgot to ask him those questions...

jacqueline replied: "i wouldn't drink juices - water is the best solution. and tea. coffee is bad. u might eat all kinds of fish and meat as long as it is not fried. u can eat all fruits and vegetables, except cabbage. there is smth wrong with it's acid juice. but u might eat cooked cabbage thou. fresh soft bread is bad. rice is very very good. u might look on the internet, i can't remeber everything. but use your common sense when toi decide whether to eat smth or not"

heart o' gold replied: "I'd say most fruits and veges are ok if they are fresh and raw, you might want to avoid citrus for a while. Did he say no milk? If so, try soy milk, the Wildwood brand is the best I've ever had. Most dressings will be fairly acidic, used sparingly probably ok but pay attention, if your tummy feels bad avoid nect time. Stay away from fatty meats, fish & skinless chicken ok. Diluted fruit juice but not citrus probably ok."

gjc replied: "Soy milk should be ok - I would avoid acidic fruits - oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and tomatoes. Diluted apple juice should be ok. I would avoid salad dressings as most contain spices and vinegar. Mashed potatoes would be good."

Vher replied: "If you are suffering from ulcer, you have to avopid food that are hard to digest, those that irritates the stomach and tghose that produced acid. Fruits and vegetables are safe to eat, as well as fish and meat and soy milk with cereals. I am not a doctor but I have the same problem with yours before, I am completely healed."

INCOGNITO replied: "I am going to give you advice out of my own experience, for I have the same problem and have been taking Losec for more than three years. Let me start with the cause of the problem. When you have a lot of stress, it can either go to you heart or you stomach. Anything with a high acid contents will affect your ulcer, so stay away from oranges and alike fruits. Together with my 4 ulcers I have a 5cm hernia so that is not the best that I will even wish on my worst enemy not that I have any hopefully. Avoid all spicy foods, hard liquors, and rather have your salads dressing in the form of a yogurt based one than the sour ones you get. Don't have to large meals or late at night and sleep with your head high on the maybe two pillows. Dilute the acid by drinking allot of water not sodas. There is no problem with fish and chicken but red meats could be hard to digest, so don't eat to much of these. Vegetable are good for you but avoid cooking them in to much sugar and oil, rather make use of extra virgin olive oil. Take Care S"

Miranda B replied: "I think your cutting to much out of your diet you will be unhappy if you cut out all the good stuff. I am 23 years old and suffer from ulcer disease I use axid when i feel myself getting an ulcer and prilosec twice a day. I have cut out the things that i can feel hurting my chest and my stomach, but I pretty much eat what i want at least one time a day so that I dont feel deprived of the good stuff."

What can we expect now that the surgeon says no surgery on sliding hiatal hernia? After the upper GI barium swallow our surgeon says mom's esophogus is shortened and peristalsis is not working too good and feels like medicine is best instead of the nissen procedure. Her esophagus is enlarged 4cm and has shortened and she should use protonix meds. Now, we wonder what can we expect happen to her hiatal hernia and will she get better with just meds?

Do you have to take Aciphex 30-60 minutes before a meal like Prontonix? I had been using Protonix and had to take it 30-60 minutes before a meal. My doc late yesterday gave me samples of Aciphex because the Prontonix appears not to be helping anymore my larynx/silent reflux. I forgot to ask him if with Aciphex there is the 30-60 wait or it can be taken right before/after a meal? Thanks.

ER Nurse replied: "Yes is the answer to your question. For the maximum effect, any acid blocker medication is best taken on an empty stomach. If you haven't already, put two bricks under each side of the head of your bed, this will elevate the head of the bed about 6 inches, avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and eating or drinking anything within 4 hours of lying down at night. Hope this helps."

july replied: "AcipHex can be taken with or without food. Having food in your stomach does not decrease or increase its absorption. Protonix can also be taken with or without food. Both of these drugs are PPIs, which means they inhibit the proton pumps in your stomach that cause stomach acids to be excreted. However, since your physician told you to take the Protonix 30-60 minutes before a meal, you should also take the AcipHex that way. If you forget to take your AcipHex and have already eaten a meal, it is OK to go ahead and take it. At the worst, it wil have diminished effects but it will still help stop that stomach acid. I took AcipHex for 2 years, and in my opinion it is the single best GERD medication available. I took mine with and without food, and it helped my esophagus heal rapidly."

Does Protonix show up on drug tests as THC or Methaphedomines? I take Protonix (40mg) twice daily. I have a new job coming up and have to take a drug test, and I have read somewhere that Protonix makes you test positive for THC and/or Methophedamines. I dont know if I'm spelling that right. I'm just curious if one; if you prove to them you take this drug if that makes a difference in your testing or not. Cause I do not wanna lose this job offer over a drug test from taking Protonix. And two; is this even true at all. And trust me, I do not use drugs, and that is not why I am asking this, so only leave honest answers. Thank you very much!

lottsaink replied: "there is a place on the form where you can write what meds you are prescribed. you will not fail a drug screen for taking prescription medications. the people in the labs that do this testing will see what you have written and know why certain substances may show up in a drug screen. just be up front and let them know ahead of time what meds you are prescibed."

Protonix for stomach troubles? My doctor gave me a bag full of Protonix samples today, so i went to their website to read up on it and it says that it should only be taken with apple juice or apple sauce? Does that mean that i can't use milk,water,Dr Pepper etc to help me swallow them?

It can be taken with or without food. it is best in am It is possible that the soda is aggrevating your stomach problems to begin with. Try cutting down on soda. Do you smoke or drink a lot of coffee? this is not good Protonix is good drug works well- but side effects can cause you to have loose stools--- also if this does not get better ask your Dr to do blood test H-pylori IGG and IGM this is a bacteria that is found iin our stomach and can cause refluxor stomach pains- and can lead to cancer i hope this helps"

Elaine S replied: "Protonix usually has very few side effects, if any, for most people, but each person is different. You need to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, if they persists. Having unprotected sex can lead to pregnancy. The pull out method is not a good method of birth control. Sperm are microscopic, and a drop of semen could result in pregnancy. If you are anxious about possibly being pregnant, take a pregnancy test. The test is pretty accurate at letting you know. They are usually most accurate about 1 week after you have missed your period, using urine from your first voiding of the am. Hope this helps."
